WEDDINGS IN SWITZERLAND
Villa Honegg Wedding on Lake Lucerne
Set high above Lake Lucerne, Villa Honegg has a rare combination of privacy, architecture and open landscape. I photographed Azadeh’s wedding here, and what stayed with me was how naturally the day moved between the quiet atmosphere of the hotel and the scale of the scenery outside. For couples planning an intimate and elegant celebration in Switzerland, it is one of those places where the setting never needs to compete for attention — it simply gives the photographs room to breathe.

Villa Honegg
Above Lake Lucerne
Villa Honegg feels removed from the rush of everyday life. The hotel sits above Lake Lucerne with the mountains opening out beyond it, while the architecture and gardens keep the atmosphere refined rather than overwhelming. From a photographer’s point of view, that balance is what makes the location so interesting: there are clean, elegant lines close to the hotel and much wider landscapes only a few steps away. That variety gives a wedding gallery more depth. Portraits can feel intimate and quiet in one moment, then cinematic and expansive in the next, without needing to leave the property.
Photographing Azadeh’s wedding at Villa Honegg gave me the chance to work with the location as part of the story rather than simply as a backdrop. I wanted the photographs to show both the couple and the sense of place — the calm around the hotel, the open landscape and the understated elegance that defines Villa Honegg. For me, the strongest wedding photographs here are not created by forcing every view into every frame. They come from moving naturally through the day and choosing the setting that suits each moment. Some images need the scale of the mountains; others are stronger when the surroundings almost disappear.

The Wedding Day

Portraits at Villa Honegg
The grounds around Villa Honegg offer several very different possibilities for portraits. Close to the hotel, the architecture creates a polished and editorial feeling. A little further away, the open hillside and the surrounding landscape make the photographs feel softer and more relaxed. I prefer to keep portrait time calm and unhurried. Rather than turning it into a long photo session, I look for a few strong locations, good light and natural movement between the couple. At a place like Villa Honegg, the setting already does a great deal of the visual work, so the photographs can remain elegant without becoming overly staged.

Light, Landscape and Timing
At Villa Honegg, timing matters because the character of the landscape changes noticeably throughout the day. Open areas can feel crisp and graphic in stronger light, while later light brings a softer atmosphere to the hills and the hotel surroundings. When the wedding schedule allows it, I like to keep a short portrait window flexible rather than fixing every photograph to one exact minute. That gives us the freedom to work with the weather and the light we actually have. It also means the couple can stay present with their guests instead of disappearing for a long photo session.

Planning Notes
If you are planning a wedding at Villa Honegg, I would leave a little breathing room in the timeline around the portrait session and the transition into dinner. The location rewards a schedule that is not packed too tightly. It is also worth planning for more than one weather scenario. Lake Lucerne and the mountains can look beautiful in very different conditions, and a cloudy or misty day does not mean the photographs lose their atmosphere. The most important thing is to build a timeline that lets the day unfold naturally while still protecting a few moments for portraits in the best available light.
